Affordable Healthcare continuing battle

I was watching the Movie Lincoln and it gave me a few idea's about the current situation here in America. This really is a Civil War going on right now and the characters are as follows. Obama is Lincoln he is trying to keep the Union together but he knows he must free the 30 million people who do not have healthcare who are in effect slaves in this country. They work for not enough pay to take care of their family's healthcare. If your work for a wage that does not enable you to provide quality healthcare for your family then you are in effect a modern day slave. The Republicans are the Confederacy they are willing to destroy the country rather then move forward with the other Nations of the world and free these poor people from a lifetime of worry and fear of getting sick, by granting them affordable healthcare. They have shut down the government in order to stop 30 million people from freedom.

Disgrace and Shame on our leaders who would rather see the nation die....

It is shameful that our nation is still under the influence of hatred. The entire effort of the political engine that drives this nation is broken and will soon sputter and stall due to the "filthy soot of discrimination" that has clogged the working parts of our political system. Hatred would rather see this nation crumble and die than to support the efforts to create the nation that our forefather's spent their lives to build, "One nation under God with liberty and justice for all." Our ancestors are crying out from their graves over what is being done. In their attempts to prevent this President from having historic successes, they are willing to kill us all. Shame, Shame on you all!

Crossfire

OK, just watched Crossfire with Van for the 1st time. As long as there is a bubbleheaded bigot like "S.E. Cupp" (is she channeling Dick Cheney???!!!) on the program I definitely won't waste my time, or my blood pressure. She doesn't even offer any intelligent discussion, just the same old Rethuglican talking points.

CNN....going in a very bad direction

Since the new CEO was installed at CNN, there's been a definite change for the worse. It's become more "infotainment" than actual journalism. And today I watched a piece about the Republican attack on "Obamacare" which consisted of 10 seconds of video of Nancy Pelosi making a statement, and then 10 MINUTES of not one, but two REPUBLICANS giving rebuttal! Where was the other side???? Where was even an unbiased opinion? I'm seeing this happening more and more on CNN -- this is not unbiased reporting, it's PROPAGANDA. It's yet another example of mainstream media being made a shill for corporate interests. Read Gar Alperovitz's book "What Then Must We Do?". It's an eye-opener on the true state of the country....and it isn't good. It's made me realize that the Citizens United "coup" by the Supreme Court turned our democracy on it's head. Every member of the Supreme Court that voted for this decision should have been impeached immediately. Our government and our lives are now controlled by corporations. Until Citizens United is overturned, there is little hope for any different path than what we see now, with the 1% holding all the wealth and power and the rest of us becoming merely indentured servants set to fighting amongst ourselves over scraps as we watch our biosphere being destroyed.

Endless Budget Fighting - What would JFK do?

Watch JFK's speech at Yale University in 1962 - in other words, our problems are too complex to be solved by ideology, we need the best of all business, government and academic leaders and stakeholders to define solutions that benefit the nation overall...to use funding the national budget as a last desperate measure does not recognize the substantial and significant cost to the nation...we have already lost our AAA credit rating, who wants to lose more? Lastly, what would JFK do on health care...watch JFK's 1963 speech at Madison Square Garden on the "new" Medicare legislation...how many times do we have to "learn" the same thing, debate past agreement? 50 years later, our politics seem to be more like 1913 than 2013...

Who will replace Bernanke?

Who do you think will replace "the Fed"/FOMC chairman, Ben Bernanke? I have a BA in economics and have absolutely no idea. Hopefully, someone who won't let presidents/politics influence their actions and who'll try to help responsible homeowners and savers (I'm both a saver and responsible homeowner and while I like having a low mortgage rate, I hate the low CD and savings rates now) at the same time. I'm kind of hoping that a woman will lead the FOMC.

How I became a Van Jones fan.

I heard Van Jones speak at our UMWA fairness at Patriot rally in Saint Louis. When Van asked Cecil Roberts to be added to the arrest list I told fellow UMWA members there is no way he is going to sit in the street, in front of Peabody Energy's headquarters, in that Brooks Brothers. He did and I am a fan.
