The economy is improving too slowly due to poor economic policies.

The economy is improving too slowly due to poor economic policies. For the economy to fully recover, we need tax reform at the state and federal level. With low marginal tax rates for almost 30 years, wealthy investors were able to deploy their vast economic resources across the globe without financial consequences. If instead, we had higher marginal tax rates at the federal level, but offered tax deductions and/or credits for investments which created good paying jobs in America, we would be the role model and gold standard for worldwide economic growth. We also need to consider funding state and local government via a consumption tax instead of an income or property tax, so that the savers are not punished for their frugality. Savings rates in the USA are too low because we reward opulent spending with big tax breaks. How sad!

SF Rec and Parks plan for the renovation of Beach Chalet Athletic Fields is an ecological disaster

Judge Jackson got it so wrong in dismissing the Sierra Club’s appeal it really makes you wonder. "Toxins from tire crumb can enter the body through inhalation of particulates, fibers, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). VOCs can cause organ damage, irritation of eyes, throat, and airways, and nervous system impairments. Synthetic turf can be heated to high temperatures when exposed to sunlight which, in turn, can lead to further release of VOCs." Another 2011 study found that benzothiazole, a chemical that causes respiratory irritation and dermal sensitization, volatilizes from crumb rubber resulting in inhalation exposure." Quotations from the Sierra Club's brief. Come and play, kiddies, while Rec and Park sacrifices your health so they can charge adult soccer leagues to pay for play. They are marketing these fields all over the Bay Area and obviously don't care about the environment or anyone's health as long as they can make a buck and pay their executives inflated salaries. Yeah, give me Golden Gate Park to rent out and I could make some money too. It’s not too late for you to do the right thing and support the low-cost, natural grass alternative. Something that is so clearly wrong for Golden Gate Park, detrimental to the environment and short-sighted should not be allowed to go forward. The California Coastal Commission staff recommendations for the renovation of the Beach Chalet Athletic Fields need to be implemented. This can be a win-win situation for everyone except City Fields and they deserve to lose on this one.

Ken Burns' The Central Park Five documentary clip screening

Hi Van and team- California Film Institute Education (CFI Ed) is showing this film to bay area high school students who convene monthly to view intense documentary films. The only public event associated with this speaker will be THIS WEDNESDAY: Microsoft store in Corte Madera at 3:30 pm- 5:30. RSVP for a spot to [email protected]  Filmmaker Ken Burns, working with his daughter Sarah, has created a compelling and long needed update on what happened to the wrongly convicted 5 young men (as young as 13) who were scapegoats for the horrific Central Park Jogger rape/attempted murder in 1989. New York City was a powder keg waiting to explode and the full weight of its social collapse fell on these 5. Their release upon the confession of a serial rapist left them scarred for life. Our guest, Kevin Richardson goes around the country speaking in his spare time, through the auspices of the Innocence Project. His tours are, he says, his “therapy” and a way to connect to people of all ages, races and geographical locations. Clips from the film will be shown before Kevin speaks and answers questions. This event is for teens 15 years+ due to sensitive content.

Unprecedented Opportunities for 2014

I am Dan Grevious, I have a collection of Ideas, and innovations that I believe will superchargeCalifornia’s economy, infrastructure, and job prospects within the year. They also have the potential to serve as a blueprint for economic revitalization across the country, and eventually worldwide. They concern the BDCP, high-speed rail, and California solar initiative to start. It is what I am calling the Tython Initiative. While the Ideas that I have are simple for the sake of brevity, when explored in detail they have the potential to provide extraordinary growth and opportunity in both the public and private sectors, improving skilled employment, training, infrastructure and affordable housing.

Affordable housing discrmination against all people with disabilities

Here in Raleigh NC there is discrimination against all persons seeking to rent, lease housing, or just choose where they live. The local municipality has put into place several of their own laws (ordinance) in order to accomplish this the first is that no more than four unrelated persons can live in any home no matter how large the home if it has accommodations for all occupants or not! The home could have five bedrooms and five baths and not meet the requirements. The second thing they done was to put in place that no group home, substance abuse home etc. etc. could be within so many feet of one another. Now I say that since we all live in the United States and since we ALL are supposed to be protected against discrimination in any form this should come to an immediate stop. I also know that all across this country this very thing has been struck down by the high courts. For all who agree with me and think this is a horrible practice that shouldn't be allowed to continue please contact me, your local representatives, congressmen and so forth to put a stop to this once and for all. Can you imagine telling other groups of people they can't live within a certain area because there already is a home where homosexuals live, a group of females, or males, or a group of Latinos, Blacks, all this is discrimination at it's worse in my opinion. And just think our local municipality is the one who is discrimination and using federal dollars for housing! No local municipality should be allowed to enact any law which is contrary to the federal law, yet as you can see it is being done on a daily basis resulting in low income, disabled, and homeless not being able to access Good Safe and Affordable Housing. If you are interested in assisting with this cause please contact me via. email here at this site I have more.
