Prison system is outcropping of societal issues

Van, can we talk about rehabilitation and therapies in prison? I worked with inner city youth for 10 years, and one of the boys I helped mentor ended up molesting a small child when he was 19. Turns out he was molested himself by several different family members as a child, before I met him. He was a high school drop out of two years at the time of the incident due to too many fights at his school. He is also slightly mentally impaired and didn't get the help he needed in school. He spent 3 years in prison without even one day of therapy or rehab of any kind. He's not required to do any therapy or support group now that he's out either. I'm not excusing what he did WHATSOEVER, but he's trying hard to make it and get his GED now that he's out and I haven't seen any indication that he'll reoffend. But I feel like the system has completely failed him in every possible way. Our prison system is an outcropping of our many inner city societal issues.
